What is Emotion-Focused Therapy?

“Islands of Work in an Ocean of Empathy”

Tom Kubasik, LCPC, will offer a 90-minute presentation to introduce interested clinicians to Emotion-Focused Therapy, an integration of Person-Centered and Gestalt therapies.

Emotion-Focused Therapy is an empirically supported, process-oriented approach to therapy, with research going back to the 1970s. It is a neohumanistic, experiential approach, involving a unique integration of humanistic principles with contemporary emotion theory and a philosophical position known as dialectical constructivism.

The presentation will introduce the major features of this model, and will include lecture, video, and question & answer portions.

GreenbergWorkingWe’ll focus especially on contemporary emotion theory, including emotional process diagnosis and productive emotional processing, and watch video of Les Greenberg using a two-chair dialogue to help a woman resolve her self-criticism.

EFT has been demonstrated to be effective in the treatment of anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and couple distress. Other clinical populations are currently being studied.

This event is free of charge, but please RSVP to let me know you’re coming.

When: Tuesday, June 19th, 2018, 7pm to 8:30pm
