Rushing through processes of anything that brings positive change can be counterproductive. Quick fixes can lead to unrealistic expectations, this can be discouraging. It could bring on the feelings of self-pity and even result in fatigue. Meaningful change takes time. And it includes patience.
Feeling discourage could be considered as a warning signal. It could mean that one is overstepping boundaries or trying to control too much. This crucial insight maybe suggesting that when we can respect and recognize our limitations, it could be considered sustainable progress.
Time is a gift instead of a threat. This mindset shift encourages patience and gives understanding that both growth and healing are a process that takes time to occur.
So, it’s Hope that is portrayed as the antidote to discouragement. For us in recovery, it’s the programs promise that avoiding the first drink, drug, substance provides hope in the recovery journey. Also sharing and encouraging others does bring courage to oneself and highlights the importance of community and mutual support in this process. This journey isn’t solitary. When we share with others who provide support and understanding it becomes a more spiritual and communal experience.
This part of the process reminds me of one’s inner strength, which is greater than any external fear. Patience is a virtue, reinforcing that I am on the right path, even if the progress seems slow.
