…Forgiveness.

So having a conscience means being aware of the impact our actions have on others. A lot of times in active addiction. That small voice was silenced. Even if the actions we committed during active addiction were harming others, we probably were oblivious to it. But recognizing this harm is crucial step in our recovery process. It’s about being conscience of the pain we caused other people and despite our intentions, our actions will always be consequential.

Forgiving oneself is a vital part of the healing process. When we accept that we made mistakes, that we are human beings that will make mistakes. That is never going to be a fixed thing, we are human capable of human flaws. This will never change.

Making amends involves asking forgiveness from others and asking to forgive ourselves. This process requires courage and humility. It’s facing the reality of the consequences of our actions, taking the responsibility to be held accountable and seeking to make things right. It’s what it takes to learn self-compassion and grow up into the adult we thought we were.

Making a fearless and moral inventory involves taking a deep and honest self-examination. It’s about knowing our triggers, behavior that contribute to our addictions. It’s a courageous thing becoming self-aware. Bringing these issues to the surface, we can address them and seek healing. And we will understand ourselves better while making positive changes.

Having the ability to ask our higher power to remove our triggers and behaviors that fuel our addictions is a complete act of faith and surrender. Am I wrong? I don’t think so. Because we are willingly seeking divine intervention to help us overcome our shortcomings and character defects. And it’s all about admitting our wrongs, understanding why we did them, and acknowledging the impact on ourselves and others. It’s about seeking forgiveness and striving to become better human beings.

Also remember that we’re never alone in this journey. There is a community of support and love that is here to help you every step of the way.
