I like to think that being a good person involves a continuous effort to improve oneself. The attributes that go hand in hand with having good character are morals that should have been introduced during childhood. Or at least shown in some aspects of life.
I generally believe that most people are good and give them the benefit of the doubt until shown differently. And in my perspective, there can always be a change of heart. And I feel that to be a good person. One should be the same person with good morals and values when no one is looking. Because it counts. And ultimately means your pure of heart. In my opinion. And I happen to like my theory.
Now this doesn’t mean that a good person can’t make mistakes. Because making mistakes is a big symptom of being human.
Good people can go through the biggest tower moments and still come out unscathed. But I also feel that to be able to do that. A good person would have to have a strong faith in God too. Because ultimately, believing in something bigger than yourself is the only way a good person can overcome any obstacle. And life is full of them. And not allowing the bitterness of unwelcome outcomes to have a negative effect of being a good person. …If that makes sense. I also think that this is a realistic and forgiving approach.
A good person would always have a strong sense of integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity. Responsibility, respectful, humility, and always try to be fair or at least try to. I do like to think I have an optimistic view. This has taken some practice, and I personally feel that this viewpoint is needed to foster a more compassionate and understanding of the world. It at least sounds good. And I try to be as good as a person that I can be. But you can’t forget about setting good, strong, sensible boundaries with other people. Just because good people give other people the benefit of the doubt, doesn’t mean that one should be a doormat for society.
…just some food for thought.
